108 Solutions Military Life is here to introduce a new device we have found that allows you to connect with loved ones while apart on a whole new level. Kwamecorp has created a technology that allows you to wear a tiny touch module that comes in a set of two. Give one to a friend and keep one for yourself and when you touch it, the other feels it, no matter where they are located.

“We don’t do tweets, we do tickles.”

Think of Bond as your personal mood ring that others can see and feel what you are feeling. Based on our research, there are different "signals" you can send to your friend. See them below along with the mobile application linked to the Bond technology:

Army Parts Ways with Football Coach Rich Ellerson

After a disappointing 34-7 loss to Navy, Army has reportedly parted ways with head coach Rich Ellerson. Ellerson was 20-41 at Army, including 0-5 against Navy.
The firing comes one day after Army lost 34-7 to Navy, the Black Knights' 12th straight loss in the lopsided series.

Pete Thamel of Sports Illustrated had the news:

The loss marked Army’s 12th straight defeat at the hands of Navy, their biggest rival, and brought the end of an unsuccessful term by Coach Ellerson.

Army Director of Athletics Boo Corrigan briefly spoke about the decision (via goarmysports.com):

Ellerson came to the Black Knights after stints with Southern Utah and Cal Poly. After amassing a 60-41 record at those two schools, however, Ellerson only managed a 20-40 record with Army.

The Black Knights won seven games in the 2010 season and won the Armed Forces Bowl that year, but Army has gone 8-27 in the last three years and won only three games this season.

Ellerson’s successor is likely to have some ties to Army football, and Thamel mentions Ohio State co-offensive coordinator Ed Warinner, New York Jets special teams coach Ben Kotwica and Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Mike Sullivan as a few names with West Point connections to keep an eye on.

Whoever replaces Ellerson will have his work cut out for him, as Army’s last winning season prior to Ellerson’s 2010 campaign was in 1996 under head coach Bob Sutton.

2013 Army-Navy Game Final Score: Midshipmen push rivalry streak to 12 with 34-7 victory

It's that time once again to renew the Army-Navy series, which is the last game of the regular season. After this we're on to the bowl games, and beyond that there's nothing but the long, cold off-season. Army and Navy rank second and third nationally in rushing yards per game, and whichever team has more success running the ball seems likely to come out with the victory. They both run the ball an average of nearly 60 times per game, and they've been effective in doing so, with each team averaging well over five yards per carry.

The Numbers

Rankings and Records: Navy is 7-4 this season and unranked in the major polls. Army is 3-8. The Midshipmen lead the all-time series, 57-49-7.

Vegas: Navy opened as a 10-point favorite, while the over/under opened at 54.5.

Weather: The high in Philadelphia isn't expected to climb above 40. There's a 60 percent chance of rain and/or snow showers as well.

Impact Players

Keenan Reynolds -- Navy has been developing effective option quarterbacks forever now, implementing one after the other, hardly missing a beat when one graduates. Reynolds is in his second year as the starter in Annapolis and leads Navy with 1,124 rushing yards as well as 26 rushing touchdowns. His passing numbers aren't bad, either -- he is averaging nine yards per attempt and has eight touchdown passes against two interceptions.

Angel Santiago/A.J. Schurr -- With multi year starter Trent Steelman gone, the Black Knights had a hole to fill at quarterback. Santiago has gotten the call for most of the season, but his struggles have allowed Schurr to get into the discussion. Both played in Army's last game, and both may at some point this week run the offense. Both are capable of running the ball, while Schurr has been the more efficient passer.

Terry Baggett -- Fortunately, Army has a reliable running back, Baggett, who is over 1,000 yards on the season despite averaging only about 11 carries per game. He gives the Black Knights some explosiveness, and his average of 8.3 yards per rush is easily a team-high.

Navy 34, Army 7—Final

Navy has now won their 12th straight over Army. They dominated the day with Keenan Reynolds leading them. The Black Knights lost this one with turnovers and just couldn't overcome their mistakes.

Keenan Reynolds set an FBS record for rushing touchdowns by quarterbacks

Army-Navy Player of the Game
Navy's Keenan Reynolds

His three touchdowns and 137 yards on the ground never tell the whole story. He ran his offense with great command and led the Midshipmen to five touchdowns against a solid run defense. The Midshipmen jumped out to a 17-0 lead at the half and Army never got the margin back to single digits after that. It wasn't a blowout, but it was never close as Navy coasted to the win. Reynolds put the finishing touches on a dominant career against Army by logging 137 yards and three touchdowns in the victory, and Navy didn't give the ball away under Reynolds' direction all game long. And as mentioned before, he set an FBS record for quarterbacks by rushing for his 29th touchdown of the year with two touchdowns on the day. He topped Colorado State's Kapri Bibbs for the touchdown lead among all FBS rushers (Bibbs has 28), and with both CSU and Navy awaiting bowls, this battle will rage on into late December. As the snow fell on Lincoln Financial Field Saturday, the curtains fell on yet another dismal Army football season as Navy rolled, 34-7. Navy moves to 8-4 but won't make any headway toward the rankings.

The Defense Finance and Account Service (DFAS) and 108 Solutions

In this article, we will be discussing the similarities between DFAS and 108 Solutions - our values, vision, and customers satisfaction. But first, let us give you a brief history of our company and DFAS: the major finance and account service for the government and military employees.

About 108 Solutions

108 Solutions specializes in Active-Duty Military, Federal and Government Employee credit and financing. We offer nothing but quality service to our customers and meet our customers needs in a convenient and affordable way. We understand that times are hard in this economy, which is why we work with our customers to get the products they want. Most of our military personnel have little to no credit so we offer financing to help stabilize them for a promising future.

108 Solutions Customers

108 Solutions serves its customers in a multitude of ways; competitive pricing, APR, and allotments. The most obvious of which is our competitive pricing. We take pride in offering one of the lowest price markups in the Military Finance industry. Our double markup is significantly cheaper than the exorbitant charges of competitors: Freedom Furniture, USA Discounters and the late Smart Buy. We have witnessed these companies charge considerably more than our double markup; sometimes even charging as much as three (3) to four (4) times the MSRP of select goods. Sadly, the prices of these so called ‘leaders’ in the Military Finance industry have reflected poorly on our industry as a whole. Consequently, 108 Solutions work tirelessly to overcome this negative publicity in an effort to re-legitimize our entire industry.

With respect to our competitive pricing, our reasonable interest rate of 16.95% and convenient payment method (allotment) must also be of note. Our APR easily beats some of the ‘College Credit Cards’ distributed by major banks whose interest rates can reach 21-23%. For all of our Military customers, 108 Solutions sets up a monthly payment plan in the form of an allotment. An allotment is a guaranteed monthly payment (split between a service members two paychecks on the 1st and 15th of the month) that is automatically transferred by the Government. This form of payment gives each of our customers the assurance that they are paying their bills on time as well as the convenience to pay their bills slow and steady. In effect, 108 Solutions offers a competitive, although alternative, option for consumer financing to our customers. (You can access your allotment information through your myPay, which essentially is a part of DFAS.)

108 Solutions’ Convenience

By financing with 108 Solutions, our customers have the opportunity to enjoy today while preparing for tomorrow. In essence, thanks to our zero money down finance program, every customer can save the money that they have today (maintaining their normal day-to-day expenditures) while making incremental payments (in the form of an allotment) on their 108 Solutions purchase. This affords our customers the flexibility they need with their budget as they juggle the pressures of this current economic crisis.

Decisions must be made, but occasionally, we need a little extra time to be completely sure about what we have decided upon. For moments like these, 108 Solutions offers all of its customers a 14-day return policy in the event that they no longer want their products. We understand that it can take time to be 100% sure about a decision. For this very reason, our 14-day return policy affords our customers the time and space they need to deliberate over their investment. As long as they have not opened or used the product we accept all returns with No Hassle and No Charge. However, if the product has been opened or used, we do charge a 5% restocking fee to recoup the product’s loss in value.

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS)

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) is an agency of the United States Department of Defense (DoD) that provides finance and accounting services for government and military members. DFAS pays all DoD military and civilian personnel, retirees and annuitants, as well as major DoD contractors and vendors. DFAS is a working capital fund agency financed by reimbursement of operating costs from its governmental customers (mostly military service departments). DFAS is innovative and consistently improving the quality of their services. DFAS has steadily reduced its operating costs and has returned these savings to customers in the form of decreased costs.

DFAS Core Values:
  • Integrity: Doing what is right
    • Accountability
    • Dependability and commitment
    • Rewards linked to performance
  • Service: Striving to be a trusted financial partner
    • Collaboration within and across governmental organizations
    • Commitment to financial stewardship
    • Timely and accurate information
    • World-class performance
  • Innovation: Applying creativity to increase value to DoD
    • State-of-the-art technology to become a trusted financial partner
    • Advanced enterprise systems
    • Business intelligence

Conclusion

DFAS and 108 Solutions compare in these 3 main categories: cost efficiency, customer satisfaction, and excellent service. It is our customers and their loyalty that keep us in business and successful. Our job as a company is to keep our customers happy and satisfied with our products and services.

Sequester: Military Tuition Cut

Sequester Cut

There are a variety of reasons for why men and women join the military; health and education benefits are often two of the most important factors for people when deciding to sign on the dotted line. In our article today, we are going to discuss the budgetary cuts to the Tuition Assistance Programs, which are one of the most common tactical recruitment and retention tools used by the Military.

In today’s news, a federal spending cut of 11% has been implemented to military Tuition Assistance Programs that has surprised many. This sequester cut affects the Army and the Marines because both institutions have decided that they will no longer be taking new applications for programs that offer tuition assistance to active-duty service members. Consequently, if you are in the Army or Marines pay close attention because this will affect you. While this critical decision does not negatively affect your VA benefits such as the GI Bill, neither the Army nor the Marines will have new tuition assistance any longer.

This change will hurt both service member retention and interest from new recruits to enlist. Many young adults enlist in our armed forces in hopes of receiving tuition assistance so that they can earn college credit while serving in the military. Tuition assistance is an essential way that the military can benefit its members and their careers outside of the military. If this assistance is taken away, there will be less incentive for new recruits to join up and enlistment numbers could drop immensely. Thankfully, however, veterans and the service members who are currently enrolled in tuition benefits will not be affected.

"The Army understands the impacts of this action and will re-evaluate should the budgetary situation improve," said Lt. Col. Tom Alexander, spokesman for the Army's personnel chief.

Recently as of March 26, 2013, President Obama signed a bill into law that will restore military Tuition Assistance Programs. Although this bill has been signed, research has stated that Military officials are unsure about the timing for the Tuition Assistance Programs restoration. Unfortunately, this means that until this bill is fully restored, military personnel can not receive their tuition assistance. Even though there is a wait on this bill, it once again provides hope to the men and women of the armed forces that they will receive the benefits they deserve from enlisting in the military.

Military Care Package Ideas

Deployment and being away from loved ones is challenging. We understand that separation can be tough, so that is why 108 Solutions is here to bring you some great ideas on what to send your loved ones while they are away. These ideas will make them feel more at home and comfortable.

Before you start packing, consider when you will be sending your package and how much it is going to cost you. You can go to your local post office and discuss flat rate prices for different size boxes and the price to send them to APO addresses. Keep in mind that sending to other countries can be costly, but manageable. You also want to keep in mind what items are not allowed to be sent nationwide and to other countries. Next, plan ahead how you will be packaging the items. This can include extra bubble wrap and packing peanuts to insure the items are safe and secure from breaking and/or spilling.

Now you can get creative. Think about the things that your loved one really enjoys. This can be their favorites including some of the following:

  • Snacks and drinks (cannot be alcohol related as it is not allowed to be shipped through mail)
  • Books and/or magazines
  • Games
  • Movies
  • CD’s

Send items that will make them remember home. Pictures, letters, and home videos are perfect examples. Also consider sending essentials that they can use. This can be a wide variety of bathroom products such as toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, q tips, etc. If you know their clothing size, you can send them extra t shirts, flip flops/shoes to use at work or in the showers, pants, and hats. And to insure their safety, send them antibacterial wipes and soaps to help keep them clean.

The most important thing is to just make each package personable and special to assure your dear ones that you are thinking about them. We hope that this article has given you some new ideas on what to send in Military Care Packages and stay tuned for our next article!
